The William Smith College soccer team is headed to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer National Championships after defeating Capital University in the semifinals.
This will mark the first time the Herons have made a trip to the national championship since 1997.
The Herons will face the winner of the other semifinal match. Their opponent will either be No. 2 Trinity or No. 13 Middlebury.
Kara Shue, a Rochester native and first year player, assisted teammate Krista Longo in the score of the first Heron goal in a NCAA championship round since 1988. It was Longo's 7th goal of the season and Shue's 10th assist of the year.
The championship match will be played Saturday on Toyota Field at 2:30 p.m.
