The Western New York Flash plays their home opener Saturday at Sahlen's Stadium. They'll do so without their marquee player.

Abby Wambach will miss her first chance to play in front of her home crowd as a pro on the home team.

The National Women's Soccer League has a concussion protocol that involves full practice and no symptoms in between. Though Wambach passed all her concussion tests, she has not met the league requirements and will be on the sidelines when the Flash hosts Boston.

"They have an extensive concussion protocol that you have to go through, days of training, and you have to be 24 hours symptom free in between each one before you can move on to the next day's protocol. I'm in the middle of that right now and there's just no chance I'll be able to get through it by Saturday, which is obviously disappointing. I wish I could be out there with the team," Wambach said.
