Bills recharge during bye week

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills could use a break, and they'll get one this week. The next time the team will meet up at one Bills drive will be Monday to start preparing for a trip to Houston to face the 6-1 Texans.

Under the new labor agreement teams can practice just once during the bye week. The Bills did that Wednesday. Sitting at 3-4 right now, the players will use the time off to not only get better physically, but also to get away from the mental strain off the 16 game NFL season.

"It is a long season and a bye week is welcomed every year no matter what your record is just because it is tough sometimes with your body and mentally the strain that it puts on you," said quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. " I think the bye week is always welcomed."

"I think a lot of guys are just going to have to do some self-reflection during this bye week," said running back Fred Jackson. "Whatever it is you do to take your game to the next level, that is what we are going to have to do when we come back off of this bye week."

It's also a chance for the coaching staff to step away from things and maybe come back with some fresh ideas.

"Just get away for a little bit and get your mind off of things that are problems," said head coach Chan Gailey. "That is what coaches do. Coaches think about how to solve problems. If you can get away from that for a day or so, come back then maybe you do have a different perspective or see things a different way." ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
