A gift from the Wilmot Family is making a new cancer research campaign possible.
The family and the James P. Wilmot Foundation presented the University of Rochester with $4,000,000 at the Discovery Ball Saturday night.
The money will fund the recruitment of a senior researcher in cancer genomics at the Wilmot Cancer Institute. The research will analyze every gene in a cancer cell to develop targeted therapies.
"The treatments have gotten so much better than they used to be and now genomics, we hope, will pivot into all sorts of new treatments and hopefully cures for this horrible disease," said Judy Linehan, James P. Wilmot's daughter.
In all, the gift is part of a $30,000,000 cancer research campaign at UR Medicine.
