Tuesday night, Kathy Hochul told supporters the race was too close to call. But early Wednesday morning she conceded.

"We shouldn't even be this close folks. This is a sign, a very, very hopeful sign about this country."

Hochul said she knew it would be a difficult battle in the most Republican U.S. House district in the state of New York.

"This is an amazing victory and a statement about the people of this district."

Republican Chris Collin had already claimed victory shortly after midnight.

"This win is the best because many people said we were down and out in fact dead on arrival. I did not even know if we would run for public office again," he said.

Collins, who lost his seat as Erie County Executive last fall, called it a comeback for the ages.

"I'm going to be a voice for conservative values of growing our way to prosperity and we'll have to see how that goes, but I will be in the majority in Congress. I'm going to have a substantial role to play there."

Collins was very critical of the president's record during his campaign. But now that he's in office too, he says he's ready to work with President Obama. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
