Just weeks after stepping down for health reasons, the Dean of the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester has died.
University officials confirmed that Douglas Lowry passed away Wednesday morning.
Lowry served as dean since 2007 and was the first to be named the Joan and Martin Messinger Dean in 2011 and again in 2013.
College officials say Lowry was a composer, conductor and academic leader who was keenly attuned to the challenges of the music school and his students.
Douglas Lowry was 62.
