The dean of the Eastman School of Music at The University of Rochester is stepping down because of health reasons.
The U of R says Douglas Lowry, 62, resigned Monday.
Lowry has served as dean since 2007 and was the first to be named the Joan and Martin Messinger Dean in 2011 and again in 2013.
Lowry led the music program through the transformation and renovation of the Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theatre and construction of rehearsal and teaching spaces.
Jamal Rossi, the executive associate dean will serve as an interim dean until Lowry's replacement is named.
