Around 60 incoming 9th grade girls are participating in a pre-collegiate Summer Bridge camp.
On Sunday, students from the Young Women's College Prep Charter School of Rochester moved into Davison Hall on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College for the week. They will take part in classes, including freshman orientation, financial literacy and service learning as well as recreational and team-building activities. They'll also take a field trip to the Camp Arrowhead Ropes Course in Pittsford.
"We're creating a college going culture for the students and one way to do that is by giving them experiential opportunities to really see themselves on a college campus. We believe at YWCP that before a girl can be it, she has to see it and this is a true opportunity for her to see it," said LaShunda Leslie-Smith, YWCP President and CEO.
YWCP is Rochester's first and only all-girls public school. It opened in 2012 and continues to grow each year by adding a new class of students.
