A second person is dead in the Livingston County Town of Sparta after the second crash in one day.
Deputies said Corey Yeoman, 26, of West Sparta died on Presbyterian Road near Union Corners Road in West Sparta shortly after 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
When deputies got there, Yeoman was partially out of his overturned car and was trapped. The Livingston County coroner was called in and pronounced Yeoman dead at the scene.
Deputes are still investigating what caused the crash but believe speed was a factor.
Earlier Thursday, one person was killed in a two car crash on Route 256 in Sparta.
Deputies say John Linehan, 22, of Livonia tried to pass a dump truck, but crashed head-on into another car driven by Theodore Markel, 41, of Dansville.
Markel died at the scene.
Two passengers in his car, Matthew Markel, 20, and Joe Greene, 22, of Dansville were critically injured.
Markel is listed in guarded condition and Greene is currently listed in satisfactory at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Undersheriff Matthew Bean says drivers need to be more careful to avoid these kinds of crashes.
"We had two tragedies here today [Thursday] in the county. One early this morning, one late this evening. Both, we believe the one vehicle was trying to pass this morning and didn't see the oncoming vehicle causing the accident and tonight with speed being a factor, we just think that people need to use caution and due diligence. Motor vehicles are very powerful and very heavy and it doesn't take long for things like this to happen," said Matthew Bean, Livingston County Undersheriff.
Both crashes are still under investigation.
