Three fire departments in the Rochester and Finger Lakes areas are slated to receive more than $700,000 in federal grant money.
The Canandaigua Emergency Squad in Ontario County will receive $445,274. The money will be used to buy new ambulance radios and portable radio systems to eliminate communications difficulties for its 911 call center.
Fishers Fire District in Ontario County will receive $168,150 for 25 new breathing masks to help keep firefighters safe.
And Bennington Volunteer Fire Company in Wyoming County will get $97,546 to buy 17 breathing masks.
The funding comes from the department of homeland security's assistance to firefighter's grant program.
