The Rochester City School Board came to a unanimous decision Thursday night and approved a charter school lease proposal.
In the resolution, True North Rochester Preparatory Charter School will sublease the third floor of the district facility at 175 Martin Street. The building is currently used for East High School seventh and eighth graders while the middle school space at East is being renovated.
Once those students return to East in the fall the Martin Street space will be freed up for Rochester Prep.
"Hopefully for the district what we are offering them is the opportunity to offset some of the costs they would otherwise be paying for a building that they don't have students that honestly need it next year," said Anna Hall, Chief Operating Officer of Uncommon Schools.
The district will be paid more than $178,000 dollars a year for the space.
The deal is renewable for up to four additional one year terms.
