A local man has been honored by the FBI for his work in the community.

Gary Mervis is the chairman and founder of Camp Good Days and Special Times.

He was one of 56 recipients of the 2013 FBI Director's Community Leadership Award. Mervis was honored for his involvement in anti-violence initiatives like Project Exile, Partners Against Violence and Project TIPS.

Mervis was given the award by FBI Director James Comey in a ceremony Friday in Washington, D.C.
