Two of Rochester's largest employers came together to deliver what they called a major announcement involving millions of dollars.

The Wegman Family Charitable Foundation donated $17 million to the University of Rochester. Seven million of that goes towards completing the new Golisano Children's Hospital. That leaves the hospital's fundraising efforts just $15 million shy of its $60 million goal.

Danny Wegman is also giving $10 million to the Institute for Data Science. The proposed 50,000 square foot facility will complete the University's Science and Engineering Quad and bear the Wegman name.

"Businesses are going to use this education and the new technologies and they go together. I'm just so proud that here in our region and in New York State we're doing this. I think it's going to really help us grow in the future," Wegman said.

Besides the Wegman gift, more than $872,000 was allocated in the new state budget for the Institute for Data Science.
