New York State Police are releasing more details surrounding the death of an Ontario County man who died after a snowboarding accident in Lake Placid Sunday afternoon.

Family tells us Austin White, 22, of Honeoye, was with a group of friends at Whiteface Mountain for spring break. His father says his friends and girlfriend were with him at the time of the accident.

State Police say White was snowboarding down a trail called "Excelsior" when he lost control and struck a tree. He was taken to the Adirondack Medical Center, where he later died. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

Austin's father says he was scheduled to graduate in May from the College at Brockport. White was a senior majoring in exercise science.

President John Halstead offered his sympathies Sunday.

“On behalf of the entire College at Brockport community, I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Austin White. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them at this difficult time,” said Halstead.
