Republican county chairs from across the state plan to meet with Donald Trump Wednesday afternoon.
They're meeting in New York City hoping to get a feel for just how serious the billionaire is about a Republican run for governor. There have been a number of Trump sightings in upstate New York in recent months including one just down the Thruway in Buffalo.
One Western New York Republican pushing for a Trump run for governor is Carl Paladino.
Paladino says efforts to nominate him for state comptroller need to wait until the party secures its gubernatorial candidate.
"They’re trying to divert my attention from Trump. I’ve been working really hard on getting Donald Trump to run for this and I feel very sincerely that he will. We’re bringing all these county chairs there and it’s going to be a nice conclave they’re going to have there in New York,” said Paladino.
Rochester-area Assemblyman Bill Nojay and other Republicans are scheduled to meet with Trump at three Wednesday afternoon.
