Former pro-golfer Danielle Downey of Spencerport was laid to rest Thursday. Downey died last week in a one car crash in Auburn, Alabama.
Hundreds turned out at Calvary Chapel of the Westside in Spencerport to remember Downey's life.
Pastor David Tomasso, who is also Downey's brother-in-law, said Danielle was an unbelievable person.
Auburn women's golf coach Kim Evans, who first saw Downey play when she was just 15, called Danielle the most humble young lady she'd ever met. Evans, who battled ovarian cancer, said Downey was always at her side through surgery and chemotherapy treatments.
Brook Lea Country Club golf pro Jon Hoecker, who mentored Downey through her career, said he's fortunate Downey touched his life and will never forget her.
Phyllis Downey, Danielle's mother, said she is not only proud of her daughter's accomplishments, but more proud of the woman she'd become. Mrs. Downey called Danielle the person every parent hopes their child will be.
Danielle Downey was 33 years old.
