WESTERN NEW YORK — Governor Andrew Cuomo has issued a state of emergency for 14 Western New York counties. Cuomo says it allows the state to use resources to help counties without having to deal with red tape.
He warns that this storm is something that New Yorkers shouldn't mess with.
"Western New York has had experience with snow but this is something different. This is snow plus extrodinary arctic cold and wind and a very long duration of about 36 hours. The combination is going to be challenging and dangerous and we're taking it very seriously," said Gov. Cuomo, D-New York.
Cuomo says the State Department of Transportation is sending plows, personnel and snow removal equipment from the eastern and southern parts of the state to help battle the winter storm.
