Once attended just for its novelty, Roller Derbys nowadays promise a hard hitting show of athleticism.
Roc City Roller Derby proved it with the Championship bout at Dome Arena Saturday night.
The Bout Chair referred to as Sinister Minister described it best. Three home teams play each other monthly during their home season from September to December.
The two highest ranked teams compete for the championship trophy, a golden pair of skates.
This year's match-up was between the Midtown Maulers and the RottenChesters.
"Roller Derby here in Rochester brings out the best that Rochester has to offer," said Jack Porcello, Chair of Bout Production. "We have house wives and students, we have doctors and lawyers. We have people from all walks of life out on the track, doing their best to really make something that they believe in happen."
The golden skates will be laced with the color of the winning team. Saturday's game benefits the Pirate Toy Fund.
