First, Rochester's police chief, and now the city's fire chief has announced his retirement.

Chief Sam Mitrano said Friday he intended to stay on as chief, but was informed Thursday by Mayor-elect Lovely Warren that she was going in a different direction.

Mitrano has served as chief for a little more than a year. He's been with the department for more than 25 years.

"You know, I kind of expect changes as administrations change and I guess I'd have to say that it was a surprise to see that I was not going to be here anymore," Mitrano said.

Mitrano's last day with the department will be Dec. 31. Warren takes office the next day. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
