Mayor-elect Lovely Warren says she plans to make an announcement regarding the appointment of the next Rochester Police Chief early next week. Warren updated YNN on the candidate search Thursday.

Warren said she has one more person to interview for the job. She would not say if this candidate is from the Rochester Police Department or not.

Warren said the ideal police chief is proactive and one that can strike a balance between policing, leading and community.

"This is probably the most important job besides the Commissioner of Neighborhood and Business Development that I will have to appoint, of course with council's confirmation," Warren said. "I want to make sure the person chosen for the job understands the position and the challenges and the opportunities with that."

Warren said she has reached out to former RPD interim chief Cedric Alexander. He is currently a chief of police in Georgia.

Warren has not disclosed who else is being considered for the job.
