A local reading program, RocRead, has announced the launch of a new campaign. RocRead will be teaming up with other organizations to encourage students to read on their breaks from school.

Collaborating with the YMCA, Lancers, and the Razorsharks, the Gift of Reading program hopes to encourage students to exercise their mind and body during December break.

"We have 25 to 30 percent of the school district that participates, which is 7,000 - 8,000 students will be reading a book over the holidays, filling out a report, sharing their love of reading with their families," said RocRead co-founder Howie Jacobson.

Students who take part in the Gift of Reading program and all three break-reading programs can win prizes like an e-reader and tickets to a Lancers game. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
