Monday night the East Irondequoit Board of Education approved an additional payment the developer of the Medley Center will have to make for not reaching a milestone agreement.
That means Medley Center Owner Scott Congel will owe millions on top of his January payment.
Congel was required to invest $165 million in the property. He last offered $2.1 million to settle the dispute over missing the deadline but the school district isn't budging. $3.8 million will be added to his January bill.
"Everyone else in the town, other developers, homeowners all have to honor their agreements," John Abbott, Deputy Superintendent, said. "They have to have to pay their taxes and we can't just say 'forget about it' because he's the only game in town."
East Irondequoit says it is willing to give Congel an amended PILOT agreement but the next steps are up to him.
Abbott says the school district is being as flexible as it can be at this point.
