New York State is hoping to stop wrong-way drivers on the Thruway with a new wave of LED signs.
The state installed signs at ramps on the Niagara Expressway in Buffalo and in Rockland County where serious wrong way crashes have happened before.
Built by the Thruway Authority, the signs use Doppler radar to detect a car going the wrong way and flash warnings to turn around.
The sign can also send a warning to a message system on signs along the Thruway.
The state says more of these signs are on the way for the Thruway in the future.
