Members of our community are reacting to the news of Mandela's death. Students at the University of Rochester reflected on his legacy this afternoon.

"What he represents is the fact that no matter how desperate a situation may seem and how against you the odds may seem, as long as you are doing something that's morally commendable, you're eventually going to succeed," freshman Brian O'Neil said.

"I think one of the biggest things that sticks with me after his passing is one of his quotes about education really, and one of the reasons I'm here actually," Vignesh Chari said. "'Education is one of the greatest tools that you can use to change the world.'"

The school will have the flags at half staff in Nelson Mandela's honor until sundown Monday.
