This is good news for the Rochester job market and it comes just in time for the Holiday Season. One hundred full-time jobs are available at Harris Communications. YNN's Mike Hedeen has more on the story.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Harris is looking for engineers to fill positions in a variety of disciplines including electrical, mechanical, software and systems. Harris was recently awarded a new contract to supply communications equipment to the United States Army.
There are also agreements with international firms and in the public safety field that helped create these job opportunities.
"We produce very serious communication equipment for people that are in harm's way a lot. So we have to have people that care about quality and making sure things are right the first time," said Carmen Allen, Harris Human Resources VP.
The equipment produced by Harris is not only used by military personnel in combat zones, but also by first responders and search and rescue teams. Harris communications was used downstate in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy and most recently following the typhoon in the Philippines. The company is looking for experienced engineers as well as recent college graduates.
"It's rewarding, especially for me as a packaging engineer, to package systems to make sure they get to where they're going safely and effectively and the people that need to use them can have them for what they're needed for," said Diana Solt, Harris Packaging Engineer.
These engineering positions are available now. Interested parties can apply on-line at harris.com.
