ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Police say a Rochester man was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with life threatening injuries after being shot on Genesee St.
Police say at around 2:10 this afternoon a male in his late teens, early 20s was shot in the upper torso.
They say the male was shot on the corner of Genesee St. and Hawley Street and actually ran 20 ft into Woodward Health Center.
Upon reviewing the incident we found the male was standing on the corner of Genesee and Hawley St., at which point a car did approach the corner. Shots were heard, at which point the victim entered 490 Genesee St.
Wilson Commencement Academy is located directly across the street from the Health Center.
The district says the shooting happened after dismissal when most students were on their way home.
The school's Safety and Security Team did secure the building to make sure no one entered or left through the Genesee Street exits. RTS buses were re-routed so students with late dismissals could leave through the back of the school.
Police say no students were injured during the incident. The victim is at Strong Memorial Hospital being treated for life threatening injuries.
