The Hearing Loss Association of America held its 30th Anniversary Gala Celebration Sunday at the Inn on Broadway.

The Rochester Chapter of Self Help for Hard Hearing People was launched in 1983. Since 1996, the Rochester Chapter has given more than $70 thousand in scholarships to 86 Rochester high school students and surrounding counties.

Rochester became one of six chapters to hold the first Walk4Hearing.

"We work on promoting awareness, we work on providing education and assistance with access for people with hearing loss, we fund major amounts of scholarships for graduating high-school seniors who have hearing loss," said Peter Fackler, volunteer.

Fackler tells us the annual fundraiser has raised more than $370 thousand in eight years.
