A student from Seneca Falls escaped with only minor injuries after falling off a waterfall in Hawaii. Marissa Peone is an Ohio University student who is spending a semester studying in Hawaii.

On Saturday, she and a friend went for a hike at the Ka'Au Crater and Waterfall. That's when Peone says she tried to get a closer look at the waterfall, but as she did, she slipped and fell to the bottom. Peone's friend called for help.

The 19-year-old says her backpack helped to cushion the fall and she walked away with only bruising.

Peone is particularly grateful because a week before her accident, another woman died after falling off the same waterfall.

"My faith in God is completely restored. Angels were looking out for me that day. He was looking out for me that day because there's no way, absolutely no way I should be here right now," she said.

Peone will finish out her semester in Hawaii and will return to family in Seneca Falls in December before the holidays. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
