"We have one of the most well balanced largest collections in Western New York," said Debora McDell-Hernandez, Coordinator of Community Programs and Outreach.

And now the Memorial Art Gallery, that members say has something for everyone, has turned 100 years old.

"We call it encyclopedic. We have something from every century, every corner of the world," said McDell-Hernandez.

To celebrate this achievement the Memorial Art Gallery had a birthday party on Sunday where they had many different forms of art and even activities for children.

"We had some celebratory dancing earlier by Bollywood Dance Mania. The University of Rochester's Midnight Ramblers, there male accapella group is just finishing indoors. So we have a lot of performing arts based entertainment, but we have also done some really great programs today to connect people to our history," said McDell-Hernandez.

The activities not only connected people to history but also brought people together of all ages.

"I am amazed that there are so many entertainment activities going on," said Carol Merkel, Webster Resident.

And such a wide variety.

"The accapella group from the University of Rochester. They were so fun," said Merkel.

"The history of the art club, I thought it was very interesting. Even though I am enjoying this," said Annette Stewart of Rochester.

McDell-Hernandez says the many activities at the event were a way to groom the future visitors. She says they want to let kids know that art is fun and accessible.

"They have nothing to lose, only more to gain. As I said earlier this encylcopedic collection has so much for every like and preference. I think people would be surprised at what they find they are connected to or they gravitate towards," said McDell-Hernandez.

And many residents at the event agree.

"I love the MAG," said Stewart. ClientIP:,, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
