Eighteen Spencerport Girl Scouts tried to break a world record Saturday.

The Troop attempted to set the record for the largest food drive as a part of earning its bronze award.

During "ROC the Record," the Girl Scouts hope to collect 560,000 pounds of non-perishable food items in one location in just 24 hours.

To encourage people to come donate there will be a bounce house, face painting and crafts.

There will also be a dance-a-thon with music provided by local bands and the College at Brockport's campus radio station.

All food collected will go to FoodLink and local food pantries.

"We've got 3 food trucks and we've got a pretty large amount so far about over 4,000 pounds. Even if we don't break it, I think we'll be okay, at least we're giving it to people who really need it," said girl scout Emily Chesebro.

The Spencerport Girl Scouts will be collecting food items until 11 a.m. Sunday at Fireman's Field on Union Street in Spencerport. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
