Monroe County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a fatal crash on the county's west side caused when the driver lost consciousness.
It happened around 11 a.m. Monday near the intersection of Brook and Scottsville roads in Chili.
Police say a husband and wife, Leonard and Cynthia Hodges, were riding in the car. Police said Leonard was driving and lost consciousness. The car then sped up, went off the road and struck a tree.
Police said Cynthia, 72, had died by the time first responders arrived.
Leonard Hodges, also 72, was taken to Strong Hospital with lacerations to the face. Police said a medical condition may have caused him to lose consciousness.
