Jeffrey Miller, 47, was driving down Main Street in East Rochester when a tree fell on his car.
"His death was sudden and tragic and they wanted to make something positive come out of this," said Cindy Kammerdiener, Jeff Miller's sister.
Miller was driving down the street with a friend in East Rochester on June 2nd when a massive tree fell on his car.
"I was actually at his house with his children for his twin sons' birthday party," said Kammerdiener.
Miller was pronounced dead at the scene and his friend was taken to the hospital. Police spent several hours trying to remove the tree from the top of the car. They say it was a freak accident.
"I said the world was gonna change because of this, not that it's gonna spin on its axis in a different direction but just like this event took place, I think people stepped back and thought about their relationships with each other," said Kammerdiener.
So why 'Tough Miller?' His family says nothing kept Jeff down. Family and friends wanted to show that same dedication in his memory by playing tough: playing lacrosse, running obstacle courses. Everything that Jeff loved.
Cindy says it's still hard to make sense of it all, but they face each day with the same tenacity with which Jeff lived his life.
"'Tough Miller' is something that has to be our slogan from now on. We're pulling together and getting through it," said Kammerdiener.
