Thursday marked the Fourth of July; the day America celebrates its independence. For many it means cookouts, time with family and fireworks.

Downtown Rochester once again played host to a large Fourth of July celebration. Festivities began at the Riverside Festival site with the weekly Windstream Party in the Park concert. The show featured the rock band Dawes. Last week's concert was canceled because of a flight cancelation involving the lead singer of the band Puddle of Mudd.

The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra also performed at 9 p.m. on the Main Street bridge.

A little later on in the evening people got to wrap up their celebrations with a show of fireworks over the Rochester skyline.

For those who couldn't make it out to the city, YNN brought the annual Fourth of July fireworks live once again from Downtown Rochester.

July 4th is also the 18th anniversary of YNN, formerly R News, becoming a 24-hour-a-day news source.

Fourth of July celebrations got off to a running start with the Brighton Chamber of Commerce 5K race Thursday.

But, the fun didn’t stop there. Kids and families came out to ride rides, listen to music, play games and eat food. Many residents come to this event every year to enjoy all of the festivities have to offer.

It makes it even more enjoyable when the sun is shining.

"Just to be out in the nice weather with my family and enjoying the fun. People are starting to come in, it's getting more and more crowded...Good times," said Brighton Resident Alison Baase.

The Skycoasters set the soundtrack leading up to the Grand Fireworks Display just before 10 p.m.
