Rochester police are investigating a stabbing that led to a police chase in the city early Sunday morning. It happened on Lyell Avenue just after 1:30 a.m.

Police say a 25-year-old man and a 40-year-old man got into an argument when the 25-year-old stabbed the other man several times in his upper body.

The suspect then tried to flee in his car and police followed him. Police say they had to stop the chase because the suspect was driving too recklessly.

Monroe County Sheriff's deputies spotted the suspect in Penfield, where they followed him and tried to pull him over. He continued to drive away, then crashed into a pole on Atlantic Avenue before running away on foot.

Deputies caught up with the man and took him into custody.

The victim was taken to Strong Hospital with what are considered to be non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the victim and the suspect do know each other.

The suspect was charged with assault. More charges are pending. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
