NEW YORK STATE -- We have some exciting news to share with anybody who has ever played a high school sport or cheered from the sidelines. Time Warner Cable SportsChannel and the New York State Public High School Athletic Association have struck a deal to bring you, exclusively, boys and girls regional, semifinal and championship events for all sports on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
The SportsChannel – owned by YNN’s parent company has already produced and aired championship events for football, basketball, lacrosse, wrestling and ice hockey. The new deal sets the stage for adding all sports including softball this spring, plus grants the rights to show the events on mobile, Internet and On Demand platforms. Nearly 600,000 student athletes compete on this level in New York State and the new deal is a “win-win” for all of them.
"It just gives us the opportunity to really broadcast our state championships to a larger fan base and it brings more interest and more excitement to our state championships," said NYSPHSAA Executive Director Robert Zayas.
Steve Arvan, Time Warner Cable Sr. Director of Local Sports and Programming says "Many kids in high school have aspirations to play in college. By putting some of these games and showcasing the very best athletes in New York on television, hopefully that opens some opportunities for them. And this has a snowball effect. You see more and more excitement at the collegiate level, and it's something our viewers and families really enjoy."
Time Warner Cable SportsChannel is an exclusive service for Time Warner Cable customers.
