The United States Air Force Thunderbirds, scheduled to perform in Rochester in June, have canceled the performance due to federal spending cuts.
The choreographed team of airmen were the feature attraction at the Rochester International Airshow in June.
With cuts in federal spending, all shows after April 1 have been canceled. The team’s last performance will be in Florida at the end of the month.
The Thunderbirds last performed in Rochester in 2008.
In a statement, airport director Michael Giardino said:
"We are disappointed about the announcement from the Air Force that the Thunderbirds will be unable to support the June 1-2, 2013 Air Show at the Greater Rochester International Airport.
My staff and I are working with the Air Show promoters to explore contingency plans. The promoters and I remain cautiously optimistic that the Department of the Air Force
will be able to reverse their decision should the budget situation change and we will make a decision on the status of the Air Show at a later date."
