When it comes to the budget, local leaders say they are pleased with Governor Cuomo's plan to create jobs and grow the economy.

Destination Downtown was the theme of tonight's Re-Shaping Rochester.

Rochester Downtown Development Corporation's Heidi Zimmer-Meyer says when it comes to Rochester's downtown, Cuomo's goal to grow economic development through the Regional Development Councils will help the Midtown rising project.

"In terms of downtown specifically the Midtown Tower is going to be helped significantly and will allow that project to move forward, which is a 17-story building and that will be converting to housing with some commercial on the lower floors," said Zimmer-Meyer.

During the state budget the Governor highlighted that $150 million for a third round of Regional Economic Development Council awards will be launched. Along with $70 million in tax breaks. In round two, Rochester and the Finger Lakes Council received the most funding.

"That's going to happen with money through the latest round through the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council, but that's one urban project but there's a lot of urban projects that will have an impact on the city and on the region so we got very lucky this time," she said.

The Re-Shaping Rochester lecture series was put on by the Community Design Center. It's goal is to discuss urban planning. The next is set to take place March 21.
