For the first time since July, some students at Livonia Elementary School are back in their 4th and 5th grade classrooms. That wing of the school was closed for months of renovations after a roof fire damaged a portion of the school.

The district has been working hard to finish up the renovations so the wing was ready after winter recess.

A welcome sign greeted the 260 students to the new wing. It includes 12 news classrooms and a speech therapy suite.

Teachers helped move furniture in and decorated the rooms. The gymnasium floor was also replaced.

"With the water damage we wanted to make sure that there was nothing that could contain mold or anything harmful, and so working with the insurance company, we made sure everything was torn out and dried out. Everything in these classrooms is brand new,” said Scott Bischoping, Livonia Superintendent.

"It is really cool. It is nice and colorful and I love the orange and blue and the new chairs are awesome and the smart board is really nice,” said Makenna Wilkins, 5th grader.

The district plans to have an open house at the school next month so the community can see the finished renovations. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
