The Webster community is reacting to the fatal shooting and trying to come to terms with the tragedy that just unfolded. YNN's Geoff Redick has more on a vigil that has been set up.

WEBSTER, N.Y. -- On any other morning in Webster, New York, you're not likely to awaken to gunfire.

"This morning we heard gunshots, firing back and forth," Gina Nuccitelli said.

"Bam-bam-bam, you know I heard additional shooting. And apparently that's when....a few gentlemen got shot," Tony Casciani said.

On any other Christmas Eve here, you'd likely be joyful, not sad.

Sarah Smith said, "It's just a tragedy. With everything going on...it's just senseless."

This Christmas Eve in Webster was not like any other. Friends, neighbors, local firefighters and police...killed.

"Fireman Mike Chiapperini, who's also a lieutenant with the Webster Police Department was deceased at the scene," said Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering.

How does a community recover from tragedy when they've had one just a year before?

Webster will recover. They'll do it, by ignoring the evil.

"The terrible evil that you see with something like this," Lieutenant Governor Bob Duffy said.

Focusing instead on the good.

Pickering said, 'We are a strong people. We have some great leaders in the state and in this county. And, you know, we're going to pick up the pieces and go forward."

Recovery will come, with time, but not today.

"It's a, it's a very difficult situation," Pickering said.

It's a sorrowful Christmas in Webster.
