There's been many stories over the years about strange goings-on at the Rochester Public Library that employees decided to call in paranormal investigators to take a look. The results will air on the SyFy Channel Wednesday night.
The Atlantic Paranormal Society from the show "Ghost Hunters" was in town in August to investigate the Rundel Library. Employees have reported seeing moving shadows among the "upper stacks" in the basement.
As for why the library should be haunted? There are rumors of a woman named Laura Young whose body was found back in 1902 in the Erie Canal, which ran right under where the library is now.
"The end of the mill race, where she washed up, is located directly below where the library stands now. So the theory goes that possibly the tragic death of Mrs. Young is what is haunting the library today," said Sally Snow, assistant director of the Monroe County Library System.
A door on an upper floor has also been seen on camera opening and closing by itself.
The lead investigator is a Western New York native and the show has featured several local places before.
The Rundel Library episode airs Wednesday at 9 p.m. and again at 11 p.m on SyFy.
