Members of the Small Business Council of Rochester are giving back to the community this Thanksgiving.

Volunteers from the Council collected food baskets from businesses across the city at the Volunteers of America downtown location.

The collection is part of the annual SBC Cares 1000 Thanksgiving Appeal, whose goal is to provide more than 1,000 families with food baskets for Thanksgiving dinner. Each basket will contain enough food to feed a family of four as well as a $25 gift certificate.

The Council believes they will exceed their goal this year due to the incredible generosity of the businesses in our community.

"It's probably one of the best events we do because it means absolutely nothing to our bottom line. It's all volunteers and giving back to the community. We will have a total of 1,000-plus baskets this year and that equates to about $50,000 in donations to the organizations," said Cindy DeVoldre, Program Manager, Small Business Council.

On Saturday, members will be traveling to various charity organizations throughout Rochester to deliver the baskets to those in need. These organizations include The Open Door Mission, Sojourner House and Alternatives for Battered Women. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
