Village Trustee in Attica: Hillcrest Ordered To Turn Off Furnaces

  • Text size: + -

An Attica Village Trustee is calling it a win for residents.

John Perry tells YNN that Hillcrest Industries is being ordered to shut down its glass furnaces. Perry says he saw that directive in a letter to Hillcrest from the DEC.

He says the company, which has been at the center of controversy in the village over a smell from a burning pile of recyclables, is being told it has to shut down until proper safety and filtering equipment is installed.

"I think it's going to be great news for everyone; not just the residents of the village, but its going to be great news for Hillcrest themselves and the employees there because the health issue will be taken care of as far as people breathing glass and once this is taken care of, really, its going to get the community off the backs of Hillcrest themselves," Perry said.

Perry says he's not sure when Hillcrest will shut down its glass processing.
