The man accused of murdering his girlfriend in her College at Brockport campus dorm room this past weekend was indicted Wednesday. However, the charge has not been released.
A District Attorney's Office spokesperson said the Monroe County grand jury voted an indictment against 21-year old Clayton Whittemore of New Hartford. It was based upon conduct alleged in the murder felony complaint filed in Sweden Town Court on Saturday. Until the indictment is filed in Monroe County court, the DA's Office won't release the actual charge.
Police say Whittemore admitted to killing 18-year old Alexandra Kogut in her McLean Hall dorm room early Saturday morning. Police say she was beaten to death. University Police found her body after her mother called, concerned that she hadn't heard from Kogut.
The suspect had been visiting Kogut at the campus Friday. Whittemore was arrested at a Syracuse-area Thruway rest stop a few hours later.
He's due back in court Thursday afternoon, the same day that funeral services will be held for Kogut.

The line stretched down Oxford Street in New Hartford, as hundreds of people waited to give their condolences to the Kogut family.
Alexandra Kogut was a new student at the College at Brockport and a New Hartford native. Police say she was killed by her boyfriend in her dorm room last weekend.
On Wednesday night, family and friends remembered the life of Alexandra, telling stories from their childhood, knowing her fun and lively personality will greatly be missed.
"She lived by grace and dignity and she did that to a tee, and she is such a role model for so many people and she'll be missed by so many people," said Maggie Talarico, friend.
Funeral services for Alexandra will be held on Thursday at the St. John Evangelist Church in New Hartford at noon.
