BUFFALO, N.Y. — Instantly following the controversial ending to the Monday Night Football game, social media blew up. Several Buffalo Bills players took to Twitter in disgust.
Defensive end Aaron Williams tweeted, "WOW!!!!! If they really call this a touchdown I'm done haha there's no way UNBELIEVABLE! - #NoWords"
Rookie Stephon Gilmore tweeted, "No comment #mnf"
Bills safety George Wilson said, "It's affecting the game, it's affecting the product and it has to be addressed."
The replacement referees have made headlines for all the wrong reasons during the first three weeks of the NFL season. The regular referees continue their contract dispute with the league, but current players want them back.
"Something has to be done right now in this moment hopefully no later than this week," Wilson said.
John Murphy, the Voice of the Bills agrees.
"I don't think it's working," Murphy said. "I think the league is going to feel some pressure to make some changes especially based off this past week. It's like a ticking time bomb in many respects and that bomb may have exploded in the Monday Night game this week."
There's no telling how long the replacement refs will be in place, but Bills Safety George Wilson says it appears they're over their heads.
Wilson said, "At the end of the day, they're human. We know they are in a tough spot to have to come in and call these games with so much riding on them. We know they are doing the best they can but with so much riding on them sometimes you have too much to handle."
Wilson tells us the Bills are trying not to think about the replacement refs or get caught up in the heated debate, because at the end of the day they still have to play the games.
