Rochester police are are trying to figure out who fatally shot a teenager on the city's southwest side Sunday afternoon.
Police say Lamar Shahid, 18, suffered a single gunshot wound to the stomach near the 500 block of Columbia Avenue and Genesee Street, shortly after 2:00 p.m.
Police say Shahid died at Strong Memorial Hospital about an hour later.
Friends gathered Monday at the place where Shahid was killed. Friends say he wanted to be an electrician and was working hard to earn his high school diploma from Monroe High School.
"He was a good guy he had dreams like everybody else. He would share his goals with me. He cared about nothing but family especially his nieces, he had them tattooed on his arm that was his world. He would pick them up spend time with them, get them something to eat. He would take care of them before of anyone else, that is the way he was. If you were somebody special to him, he'd make sure you were alright," says Kolby Campbell, Shahid's friend.
Rochester police have not yet made an arrest in this case. Authorities ask if anyone knows anything to please call police.
