A Nazareth college student involved in a crash in Pittsford back in January has died.

Strong Hospital confirmed the death of Gabrielle Acevedo of Port Chester. Acevedo was in one of the vehicles involved in a head-on crash on French Road January 22nd.

Deputies said another Nazareth student, Danielle Pitcher of Syracuse, was driving the vehicle Acevedo was in. They said Pitcher lost control on snowy roads and hit the other vehicle head on. Investigators believe speed was a factor in the crash.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said Pitcher, 20, was arrested Thursday evening for speeding and driving while intoxicated. She will be in Pittsford Town Court on February 24.

No one else was seriously hurt in the crash.

The college said it is providing counseling to students and will release details about a memorial service at Nazareth when they become available. Her funeral will be in New York City.

Nazareth College President Daan Braveman issued a statement regarding Acevedo's death:

"The entire Nazareth community sends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Gabrielle Acevedo upon learning of her death. It's a tragedy for her loved ones and all of us at the College who are struggling with the loss of such a vibrant young person." ClientIP:,, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
