A 21-year-old central New York man remains in critical condition at a Syracuse hospital after police said he shot and killed his 3-month-old son in Oneida County Tuesday, then was shot by police.
Troopers said Adam Theall shot his son Eithen just after police arrived at his parents' home in Blossvale.
Authorities received a 911 call from the home saying Theall was threatening to kill the little boy.
When they arrived, he had a gun in one hand and the child in the other. Police said he then pulled the trigger.
Three troopers on the scene ordered Theall to put the gun down. When he turned to point it toward them, they opened fire.
Theall suffered multiple gunshot wounds and is in critical condition at a Syracuse hospital.
Police said they have dealt with Theall in the past regarding domestic violence incidents as recently as four days ago.
