Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse

Thirty miles east of the mouth of the Niagara River , one will find 'Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse' , just outside of Barker, New York. The 1875 limestone constructed landmark is a popular attraction for those driving along Lake Ontario's Seaway Trail. Thirty Mile Point is one of the few remaining lighthouses today that have accommodations for people to spend the night. In fact, the lighthouse is so popular it's hard to find availability any time soon.

On close inspection of the lighthouse 'guest book', you will see a consistent mention of 'ghosts'! People from all over the country who have spent the night write about their unexplainable experiences. One very common entry describes the TV turning on by itself in the middle of the night. The bedroom alarm clock seems to have a mind of its own by 'going-off' unexpectedly . Many of the guest book entries talk about noises in the kitchen around midnight. Even Golden Hill Park workers who maintain the lighthouse have had mysterious experiences including reported sounds of footsteps on the floor above.

On one stormy evening in October, I brought along a guest on my visit to Thirty Mile Point. Sherise Jamieson of Rochester, New York describes herself as a 'spiritual reader', able to see and hear things most of us cannot. Even before she entered the lighthouse, Sherise saw people in the windows looking out at us and described them. Once inside, she told us more about them and why they were there. From a crying child spirit in the basement to a worrying woman upstairs in the apartment's kitchen, the lighthouse was very active with people only Sherise could see and sense.

Without knowing in advance of any of the experiences documented in the guest book, Sherise locked-in on what seemed to explain the repeating occurances. The 'spiritual reader' saw a little girl with curls who enjoyed playing with the 'electronics' in the lighthouse! Sherise also sensed that the little girl's mischievous mayhem included nighttime fun in the kitchen.

Everything was coming together in chilling fashion!

So, the next time you're planning on an overnight getaway, consider spending the night in a lighthouse. You can do it at Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse in Niagara County. That is, if you dare!
