A Rochester police officer was hurt while responding to an emergency call late Wednesday night.
Police say Officer Dan Mesiti responded to a report of a shooting just before midnight. He was driving westbound on Flint Street when he crashed into another car at the intersection of Plymouth and Flint.
Rescue crews had to use the jaws of life to get Officer Mesiti out of his car.
Two witnesses tried to help the two victims.
“It could have been more terrible than it was", said Rose Brown. "It was a loud high pitched scream. I just saw debris, hoods everything flying the officer’s stuff was flying ...the officer almost went into the pole on Flint and Plymouth but he swerved and went up onto the curb."
Officer Mesiti went to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries to his ankle and face. The other driver went to the hospital as a precaution.
The shooting to which Officer Mesiti responded was for a woman shot in the leg. She suffered minor injuries.
