The Young Women’s Christian Association teamed up with the University of Rochester and other local groups to recognize Stand Against Racism Day.
The organizations aimed to build awareness that racism still exists despite notable progress.
Events are scheduled throughout the city on Friday including an open mic night and book discussion on the issue.
U of R hosted a diversity conference, gaining much support from the faculty.
"It's important because we've found that we need a vehicle for entities across the University to share their best practices, challenges in making us a more diverse community, to talk about what it is we might do together to foster a more inclusive environment," explained Vivian Lewis Vice Provost for Faculty Development and Diversity.
The Rochester and Monroe County chapter is joining with 75 other YWCAs across 35 states to take part in this initiative.
